Carteret County NC native, Shirley Fay Fulcher Jones, 73, passed away August 23, 2021 from metastatic lung cancer.
Shirley was born at Morehead hospital August 4, 1948. She grew up in North River, the fourth of five children of Julian Howard and Augusta Lawrence Fulcher. After graduating from East Carteret High School in 1966, she married Nickie Jones, the love of her life. Their son Nick was welcomed in April 1967, and after a decade of persuading Nickie to agree to a second child, their daughter Shelly finally followed in November 1977.
Shirley worked for a time as a real estate agent, and later for many years as a meter reader for the local utility company, as well as helping to run her husband's various construction businesses, though homemaking was the job at which she most loved and
excelled. She took pleasure in small things like watching Wheel of Fortune, drinking Diet Pepsi, and sneaking table scraps to her three granddogs. She made the absolute best chicken and pastry, which her loved ones will undoubtedly spend a great deal of time trying to replicate.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband "Nickie" Julius Nicholson Jones Jr, her parents Julian and Augusta Fulcher, and her three sisters Oleta Boyd, Mary Ellen O'Neal, and Linda Kinch.
Shirley is survived by her son "Nick" Julius Nicholson Jones III of Yelm, WA, daughter Shelly Jones Nolin and husband Michael of Clayton, NC, her brother "Bud" Julian Howard Fulcher Jr of Beaufort, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
