On October 4, 2021, Amado Amores of Granada Hills, CA peacefully passed away after struggling with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for several years. He was the devoted husband of Grace; beloved father of Amado Amores Jr., Aurora Shapleigh and Robert; and loving grandfather of Leah and Sophie Shapleigh. He is a former resident of San Gabriel, CA where he raised his children with Grace, while working as an Accountant in the Los Angeles seafood industry for most of his career. After retiring, he and Grace also lived in Davidsonville and Gambrills MD from 2001 – 2010 to help care for their grandchildren. 

 

Amado was born in the Philippines, and grew up in Vigan Ilocos Sur. He began pre-medicine studies at the University of the Philippines, before switching to the University of the East where he received his Accounting Degree. Amado (“Minong Mado”) was the eldest son of Felicisimo and Carmen Amores and first grandson of the Marcelo Amores (clan patriarch) and Lucilo. As the oldest of his siblings (Dante, Ruben, Ed and Grace) and cousins, he was idolized – and much loved and well-remembered in Vigan. 

 

He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout with the Vigan Community Center (VCC) troop where his father (“Amang”) served as their Scoutmaster. He was also good at playing chess and he played on a recreational basketball team where he was nicknamed “Badong” (meaning saviour or rescuer). In the U.S., he was also a Cub Scout parent who enjoyed camping with his youngest son Robert and his troop. He and Grace bowled in a league for many years, and he enjoyed crossword puzzles and Sudoku. He was huge sports fan – devotedly watching UCLA Bruins football and basketball and the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lakers and Rams.
