Rubin Pelzer, 87 years old, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 15, 2022. Rubin is survived by his wife, Janith Pelzer, two children, Greg (Jodi) Pelzer, Lauren (David) Armeni and eight grandchildren, Lydia (Adam) Contreras, Clayton (Rosalie)Pelzer, Mary Pelzer, Adele Pelzer, Ezekiel Pelzer, Quentin Pelzer, Matthew Armeni, and Caleb Armeni. Rubin is also survived by all of his siblings Etan (Anita) Pelzer, Arthur(Penny) Pelzer, Adolf Pelzer and Irma (Birney) Vanderboegh.
Rubin was born on January 5th, 1935 in Berestowitz, Poland. In 1941, when Rubin was 16 years old, he and his family immigrated to the United States from Shlarpe, Germany. They originally settled in Arlington, Kentucky on a cotton farm, but soon after Rubin left to work in Chicago where he worked in the tool and die trade. He was in the army reserve program where he was encouraged to take the GED test. Despite only attending school through 8th grade in Germany and having limited English- speaking skills, he passed the test and eventually graduated from Northern Illinois University. It was there where he met his bride for life Janith Sommerschield and they were married, June 22, 1963.
Rubin worked as a life insurance agent right after college. After 5 years, he became an investment broker until he retired over 30 years later. Rubin was active in Park Ridge Jaycees and Kiwanis, served as an alderman along with serving many years on the Planning and Zoning Committee in Park Ridge. In retirement he attended Terrace Shores Evangelical Free Church in Markesan, Wisconsin, The First Church of the Nazarene in Mt. Vernon, Ohio and Oro Valley Church of the Nazarene in Arizona. Rubin appreciated lake living and also the beauty of the Arizona desert and mountains.
In his younger years, Rubin enjoyed boating, playing and coaching soccer, tennis, and racquetball. He was very thrifty and would fix things that most others would throw away. He always had a story or joke to tell anyone who would listen. He loved and was loved by his family. He will be missed by many.
